I don't have a background in interior design—just an appreciation for beautiful things and a desire to be present in the journey of the items I hold dear. When I got my first home, I was presented with a blank canvas and the freedom to let my creativity soar.
Being a practical romantic, I started with a brief for each space. Every room had to meet two criteria: it must be functional, and it must make me feel great.
The Functional: We rarely overlook function because its absence hits us immediately. Living in London, a dedicated umbrella stand by the door is a simple functional win—it’s a quiet reminder to check the weather before heading out.
The Feeling: This is more personal. For my bedroom, my brief was: 'An Asian garden in early morning spring.' I wanted to feel refreshed, as if I were taking in a floral scent while drenched in the morning sun.
Designing my home was a long, rewarding process. By starting with a brief that focused on both utility and emotion, everything else followed that vision to create a cohesive home.
